Microvia Images
Microvias are becoming more and more common in the printed circuit board designs of today. There are many benefits to laser drilling microvias, including real estate savings, impedance control, circuit longevity, and RF line termination. Laser drilling is superior to mechanical drilling for smaller diameters, accuracy, layer-to-layer registration, and depth control. For this reason, MLT has developed laser microvia processes to work with a very wide range of materials and via profiles including single- and double-deep vias, step vias, and through holes to fit your designs.
Skiving Images
Skiving is a process that allows for the controlled removal of material. Typical applications are finger or pad exposures for flex circuits or cavity formation on rigid circuits. Laser skiving can be performed to clear all dielectric material or to stop without cutting all the way through (controlled depth). MLT has developed processes to handle a wide range of materials from flexible dielectrics to rigid, reinforced materials and even some thin metals. Whatever your skiving needs, MLT has the solution.

Contouring/Routing Images
Precision laser routing or contouring has many applications in both the rigid and flexible circuit industries. Laser routing is ideal for prototyping tight tolerance flexible circuits before investing in expensive punch tooling (e.g. small form-fit devices like hearing aids or ZIF connectors). Contouring is also a great way to generate precision patterned B-stage prepreg for lamination in rigid circuitry.
Board Rework & Recovery Images
In any manufacturing environment, there is always the potential for problems. Whether errors occur in design or production, you may be left with a large number of non-functional parts. It is for this reason that MLT offers a range of precision laser rework and recovery options. These include such technologies as selective solder mask removal, controlled depth coverlay/dielectric removal, squeeze out removal, pad isolation, and trace trimming.
